Before you read this study understand that we do not teach, we share and then ask all who read the following take it to God and verify it with Him. We believe a lot of the world is misled by the church of the world and religion vs the one true church. And to know the truth can only come from knowing, not just knowing of God, John 14:26, I John 2:27, Rev 3:19-22.
Many are called but few are chosen because many are misled by false teachers Matthew 7:13-15 so we help all who wants to know the truth how to find and know the truth of and by God and not of and by man.

Double-minded

Pastor J. R. Wilhite, author   Close Window

This study is way over due and I think is one of those that requires a lot of time in the Spirit to get the full depth there of.

James 1

  1. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.

8.

|0435| a man

|1374| two-souled

|0182| undependable

|1722| in

|3956| all

|3588| the

|3598| ways

|0848| of him.

Many have trouble understanding this verse, but it is best explained by understanding if a person is of the flesh and things of the flesh they can not be of the Spirit.

A double-minded person is someone who is trying to be of the flesh and the Spirit at the same time.

To help you better understand this research Spirit and flesh in the New Testament.

If you do not have an electronic Bible on your PC, then go to http://www.godsgiftforyou.com/Bible/index.html where you will find a King James Version of the Bible. The Bible at godsgifttoyou.com is searchable and printable. The only problem is you have to do it book by book we are not set up for searching the entire Bible.

Here are a few verses you can read to get an idea of what I am talking about Romans 8 the entire chapter, and Galatians 5 the entire chapter.

Romans 8

  1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them, which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
  2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
  3. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
  4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
  5. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
  6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
  7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
  8. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
  9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
  10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
  11. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
  12. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
  13. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
  14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
  15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
  1. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

A double-minded person will try to have both; he/she will try to do as Jesus describes of one with two masters in Matthew 6.

Matthew 6

  1. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mamon.
  2. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
  3. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
  4. Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
  5. And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
  6. And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
  7. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
  8. Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
  9. (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
  10. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
  11. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

If you are truly seeking God then look for His face and not His hand as most do.

A double-minded person will go by what they see in the physical.

Where someone of the Spirit goes by the promises of God and not by what their physical eyes see, they are led by faith.

Romans 10

  1. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith only comes by the Holy Spirit, by what you are taught by God via the Holy Spirit.

John 14

  1. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

A double-minded person can not believe without doubt what they can not see. They have to have ways to explain or justify what we only can understand via the Holy Spirit. And they try doing this in the flesh without the Spirit.

Hebrews 11

  1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
  1. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
  2. 1 Peter 5

  3. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Most of what you have read so far sounds good to the double-minded person, and they will said "Amen" and all the right words, but in their heart they are of the flesh/world. They can not get a handle or do not want to get a handle on what we are talking about.

Mark 10

  1. And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
  1. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
  2. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
  3. And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
  4. And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
  5. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
  6. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
  7. And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
  8. Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
  9. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
  10. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

The idea here is that the young man had a god already and that was his money.

Some people believe that money is the root of all evil and as so often is the case they have taken scripture out of text and have it wrong. It is not that money has really anything to do with it.

1 Timothy 6

  1. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

If the young man had given it all to the poor he would of gotten it back many times over again.

And this is the root of a double-minded person; they try to justify their life as it is so they do not have to give anything up.

Actually we never give anything up that we want.

The young man in giving up of all he had would have shown there was nothing before God in his life.

The reason God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac was to show to Abraham what God already knew that Abraham had nothing before God. And if you do not remember the story Abraham was 100 when he had Isaac, he had waited 100 years. And now was asked by God to sacrifice him and right before Abraham was ready to do it God stopped him.

If Abraham had not sacrificed his son or shown he would of he would have been a double-minded man.

So there are many forms of this and they are all the same, anything that comes between you and God while you are saying you are of God. You are then double-minded and have a problem.

God Bless You as you hear His words and follow His leading.
