Why We Should Forgive
and Not Judge or Condemn

Jerry Wilhite, author

The main reason why we should forgive all is two fold:

Mark 11

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Our salvation is based on being forgiven, so there is only one thing that can keep us from being forgiven; that is our not forgiving others or our selves.

Mark 11

22. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24. Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

As you read above, all of our prayers being answered, our salvation, everything requires our forgiving as well as God forgiving us.

Someone asked me how they could forgive someone for killing their child?

I asked them if they believed their child was with God? They said yes, they believed their child was with God.

So I asked is there anything worth keeping you from your child in the next life? They said no. I told them that if we do not forgive, we are not forgiven and then we are cut off from our loved ones in the next life.

They told me it was hard, maybe too hard. I answered them that nothing is to hard for God and that if we leave it to Him instead of ourselves it would be handled.

If we do not forgive, it will eat us up and in time we are no longer who we once were, and nothing is worth that.

1 Peter 5

7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Care means concern, anxiety, worry, etc, and when we give it to Him and let go, that means forgetting. Subsequently we are free and at peace and we have pleased Him. Because we can only do this by faith, and it is by faith we please God and He rewards us by taking it away, all of the hurt and pain, and replaces it with peace.

Hebrews 11

6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Philippians 4

13. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

19. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Now to be of Christ one must first understand what Christ is. Christ is not the last name or title of Jesus. Christ comes from a Greek word "Christos" in Hebrew it is "Messiah". Both in English mean the Anointed One and his Anointing.

Imagine a dry sponge placed in a large bowl of water; when it is lifted out of the water it is dripping with water. It is then anointed with water; it has water, in it, on it, and all through it. Anointing is just that, having what ever we are anointed with, in us, on us, and all through us.

Luke 4

18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Jesus told us He was anointed with the Spirit of the Lord, so since He is The Christ, and we want to be of Christ we must be anointed with the Spirit of the Lord, or have the Spirit of the Lord, in us, on us, and all through us. Since God is a Spirit, then we have God, in us, on us, and all through us.

How do we know if we are anointed?

The fruit of the Spirit evident in our life would be prove of the anointing.

Galatians 5

22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

So when you and others can see the above fruit in, on and through you, then you know you are of the anointing.

We can either understand what is done is done and nothing can change it, and live at peace or be eaten up with grief and unforgiveness.

Now judge not, lest you be judged.

Why should we not judge anyone?

Matthew 7

1. Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4. Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

To judge another is stating you can see into their heart and really know who they are. Since no one other than God can do this, none of us can truly judge another.

Even Jesus did not come to judge.

John 3

17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The word condemn in John 3:17 means to judge. If Jesus, who had more right than any of us to judge, did not judge, who are we, that we can judge?

We can judge the act of another, just not the person.

How can anyone decide that, simply by another's actions, that is who they are. Anyone can have a bad day, and if the only time you ever saw a person was on a such day, then how could you say you know them, and know them enough to judge them?

You see someone chew someone out, and then decide this is a mean person. But the truth could be the day itself caused the action, more than the person did.

Have you ever had a day that went so bad you just wanted to give up?

Of course you have, we all have, and if someone saw you on that day and that day only, what would they think of you?

A very loving and giving person could have the worst day and give the impression that they are not who they normally really are.

So if you start to think about what I am saying you can see why we can and should not judge another.
