Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Pastor J. R. Wilhite, author   Close Window

Here are a few basic instructions to be sure you make it to the next life.

There is very little we can do to ensure all the blessings of God in our life. Even though there are very few, they seem to be the hardest things to do.

First - we ask for Jesus to come into our life.

Second - we ask Him to be Lord of our life as well as Savior.

Third - we make sure He is our Savior and Lord in all areas of our life.

Fourth - we grow by hearing Him, by listening to Him, and reading the Bible.

Fifth - we associate with like spirited people.

Sixth - we cast down all thoughts that are not of God (negative, unforgiving, judging thoughts)

Seventh - we forgive all who have done any evil against us and we forget it.

Eighth - we do not judge people (there is a very fine line between judging sins or actions and the one who comits the sin or act).

Ninth - we believe everything the Bible says about what we are, who we are, and all that God does, will do, or already has done for us.

Tenth - we remember the nine fruit of the Spirit, Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, and Self Control.

(If you have any thought that is not of one of the Fruit of the Spirit, cast it down imediately.)

Satan uses our thoughts against us to keep us from growing and enjoying the blessings of God. Satan is our enemy, he has been here a lot longer than we have and he has learned how to manipulate our thoughts and use them against us. Is there any thing anyone could do that would be worth jeopardizing your relationship with God? Someone once stated that the death of a child could. I responded with, "If we allow that to keep us from forgiving and end up in Hell while the child is in heaven, then Satan would get a true win over God." Even something as terrible as the death of a child should never come between us and God. God was not responsible and He has given us all the tools to help us to prevent this from happening. We are even told that some of us are destroyed, not by God, but by a lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4

4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

We could have started reading the Bible and talking to God a long time ago instead of watching TV, right?

The next 14 verses are from Philippians 3.

  1. Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

Paul stated that it does not bother him to re-write and continue to re-write the same things over and over as long as it helps. Plus, how does faith come? By hearing the word (Romans 10:17)

  1. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
  2. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Here he is warning us to beware of the flesh and those operating in it which can hurt us the most.

  1. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

Here he states that he used to have more reason than anyone to trust in the flesh (the world system) because he thought it was from God plus he followed the law, but left all that to follow the Jesus' "New System".

  1. Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
  1. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
  2. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Things that were excess baggage needed to be lost.

  1. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Here he counts any item that was coming between him and Christ as worthless as dung and it was better to lose it than the relationship with Christ, who could return all 100 fold.

  1. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
  2. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Here he is saying to know Christ is more than all that the world has to offer, just the peace alone could do more in our lives than all the things of the world.

  1. If by any means I might Mattain unto the resurrection of the dead.
  2. Not as though I had already Mattained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
  3. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

We should leave all of the past in the past and press forward to the Mark that takes one from this life to the next.

  1. I press toward the Mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5

  1. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
  2. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Leave the past in the past, forgive all, and forget, do not judge, love everyone, ask for your own forgiveness and live your life in Christ and you will receive more than all of the richest men of the world.
