Don’t Contradict Your Bumper Stickers

A woman was tailgated by a stressed our driver on a busy boulevard. For miles he hugged her rear bumper while gripping his steering wheel in white-knuckled agitation.

The light turned yellow of front of her. Instead of beating the red light by accelerating, she did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk. This was the last straw for Mr. Tailgater. He pounded his horn, screaming in frustration at missing his chance to plow through the intersection.

In mid-rant, he heard a tap on the window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered him to slowly exit the car with his hands up. He took him to the police station where he was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman opened the cell door. He was escorted back to the booking desk where arresting officer was waiting with the man’s personal effects.

He said, “I’m sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind you while you were blowing your horn, making derogatory gestures and cussing a blue streak at the woman in front of you. I noticed the ‘Follow me to Sunday School’ license plate holder, the “What Would Jesus Do?’ bumper sticker, and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assume you’d stolen the vehicle”

If you are going to wear the brand names of Christianity, you must live consistently with the product. What besides attending church, brands you as a follower of Jesus?

Believers assume merely showing up to church, bible studies or prayer meetings is sufficient. However, the Lord wants us to do more than make an appearance.

If you are willing to make a public statement by plastering your rear bumper with spiritual stickers, be willing to walk the talk. On the other hand, hiding your faith to excuse yourself from holiness is disobedience to the Lord.

1John 2:3 -5 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him.
