Desire, Needs, and Wants

We have all been lied to, misled, and even programmed.

Matthew 6

 8.  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

We get the idea that what we want and need is a home, car, furniture, vacation, college, etc. This are all of this world and we are lead to believe that this is what matters and counts.

Parents work hard to give everything their children want or desire except that which truly matters and what they truly need – love and a close personal relationship. Instead of spending time with their children they work longer hours to give them these things. They work nights, weekends, and spend very little time with them. If asked how the kids are they will answer that their children have more than they ever did, when the opposite is true. 99.9% of the time this is never realized until it is too late. Today most if not all lay their trust, faith, and all into things of this world, worldly riches, and money.

Matthew 6

 19.  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

 20.  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

 21.  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

God realizes and knows what our true desire is and He works to give it to us. When we do not get what we think is our desire we blame Him. We pray and ask; God helps us obtain our true desires; we never know that we are asking God to help with something that we do not even realize we have a desire for. God does it but it does not line up with what is in our mind so we reject it.

If all you had was small but comfortable home, a small piece of land to work, and you worked 60 hours a week and all of your basic needs were taken care of through this work and the rest of your time was spent with your spouse and children as well as neighbors and family, after a short adjustment time from your old to new life you would discover you are richer than you ever were before, and happier.

Matthew 6

 22.  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

 23.  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

 24.  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

 25.  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

 26.  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

 27.  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

 28.  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

 29.  And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

 30.  Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

 31.  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

 32.  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

 33.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

 34.  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

We get caught up in the world and the things of this world never realizing that all the world is doing to us is making us in debt to it so we never have time for anything but work including through our retirement years. All the world has done is steal our time, our love, all we truly need and desire, and when we finally have time for our family in our senior years we discover they are caught up in the same thing and have no time for us. Face it–what did you show them that was different?

If you truly are honest with yourself you will agree with the following:

My needs are for a roof over my head, food to eat, and a place to sleep that protected from the elements and anything else we need protecting from.

My wants are for my health and the health of my family, that we are healthy, fed and not hungry, have clothes to wear and a roof over our heads.

My desire is that I am loved and have some one to love.

The rest is just a lie that we allow to get deep in us to keep us from the truth.

Big screen TV, cars, big houses, huge sound systems, extensive vacations, etc. do not last. What they cost is not worth it. By the time you pay those off you have to buy new or spend a lot more for repairs. What do they truly give you in return? A huge house means more concern about taxes, upkeep, etc. You would actually get very little time to even spend in it because of the hours required at work to pay for it. A car, that for a short time is nice, but then starts falling apart or is not as nice as new and has problems. What’s it supposed to be for? Essentially it is just to transport you from point A to point B. If you put the time into the vehicle that carries you around 24/7 as you do a car you would live longer and healthier. All the rest like furniture, clothes, games, etc. are the same way. It is not long and they are out of season, out of the style, are worn out, obsolete and here you go again buying more getting deeper in debt.

I myself am discovering just what a problem television and movies are, how they do nothing but steal time from us. Between sleep, television and movies we lose half of our life, then add work, driving to and from, etc. and all that’s left is about 10%. We only live, truly live about 10% of our life; the rest we allow to be stolen from us.

If you put 1/3 rd the time in hearing from God, and having a relationship with Him as you do television your life would be longer, more fulfilled, and full of joy.

Do not let the world (Satan) steal the true desires of your heart. Learn what they are and get them back.
