Power in the Spoken Word

Jerry Wilhite, author

There is power in the spoken word. Think about the fact that a person abused physically can, in time, get over it, but when it is mental or emotional abuse (words) it takes a lot longer. For some, they never do get over it.

So many people miss so much in the word; it should be treated the same as a fine wine. You see wine tasters, they swirl it, then sniff it, then sip it, and then let it remain in their mouth a while before swallowing to enjoy all of the wine. The word should be the same; each word should be taken in one at a time and to the point that each is fully understood.

Here is an example of how I had overlooked an entire idea of Adam and Eve because of a word or two I read too fast or just did not take in long enough to get it all.

Before I share the verse, the idea was that Adam and Eve were covered in the glory of God and that is why they were not naked before sin. After sin they lost the glory and then were naked.

Not true, they were naked before and knew it, but were not ashamed.

Genesis 2

25. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed

How did I make that mistake and think they were not naked due to the glory of God covering them?

There are two reasons. One was I heard others I respected and since they were well known they must know what they are saying is true. The other is I did not take each word as I stated we should do and drink it all in.

I am sorry to say that over the past few years I have found a lot of things I had once believed one way only to find out they were not true.

Mark 11

22.

|2532| And

|0611| answering

|2424| Jesus

|3004| says

|0846| to them,

|2192| Have

|4102| faith

|9999| {in}

|2316| God.

23.

|0281| truly

|2063| For

|3004| I say

|5213| to you

|3754| that

|3739| who-

|0302| ever

|2036| says

|3735| mountain

|5129| to this,

|0142| Be taken,

|2532| and

|0906| be thrown

|1519| into

|3588| the

|2281| sea,

|2532| and

|3361| not

|1252| does doubt

|1722| in

|3588| the

|2588| heart

|0846| of him,

|0235| but

|4100| believes

|3754| that

|3739| what

|3004| he says

|1096| occurs,

|2071| it will be

|0846| to him,

|3739| what-

|1437| ever

|2036| he says.

Strong's Ref. # 2036

Romanized epo

Pronounced ep'-o

a primary verb (used only in the definite past tense, the others being borrowed from GSN2046, GSN4483, and GSN5346); to speak or say (by word or writing):

KJV--answer, bid, bring word, call, comand, grant, say (on), speak, tell. Compare GSN3004.

Mark 11

22. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

The spoken word is where the power truly is, but most never realize the depth to this statement. I, on the other hand, finally did only after about 10 years.

Understand that what we say is the seed to all we are and become. Seed either grows and produces or destroys. Imagine who would not want you to know and understand the full depth of what I am stating?

If you said Satan you are right. He knows that when we add faith to the spoken word he has lost.

John 1

14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

2. The same was in the beginning with God.

KJV--+ evil, + nothing, saying, word.

We are not judged by our actions, or works, but our idle words. How can this be?

God would not allow us to be judged by ours words if it were not more important than our actions.

Of course where do we try to stop a disease? At the source, and our words are our source of our actions, but even if they were not, our words are that by which we are judged.

1 Corinthians 1

24. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Strong's Ref. # 1411

Romanized dunamis

Pronounced doo'-nam-is

from GSN1410; force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself):

KJV--ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work.

Wisdom is required to understand and use the power of God. Without Wisdom the power is not even understood.

So what is needed?

1. Knowledge

2. Wisdom

3. Faith

4. Power

5. Spoken Word

Hosea 4

6. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

In Revelation 1:6 you will find we are all priests.

So without knowledge we are destroyed, but knowledge without wisdom is like a car without an engine, it will not move.

But when you add wisdom to knowledge, faith will come.

Romans 10

17. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

17.

|0686| Then

|4102| faith

|9999| {is}

|1537| of

|0189| hearing,

|3588| the

|1161| and

|0189| hearing

|1223| through

|4487| a word

|2316| of Christ.

Notice in the Literal instead of "by THE word of GOD" it is "through A word of CHRIST"

Christ is basically the same thing as God since Christ is the Spirit of God, in, on and through mankind, but "A word" vs. "THE word" shows that even in every word there is power to create or destroy. Here in a word faith can come.

Luke 6

36. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

37. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

38. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

We can not judge and/or condemn a person or thing without speaking it in some way or another. So when we judge others we are judging ourselves and being judged by the same standard by which we judged.

Over the past 10 years I have heard time and time again from other men of God on TV how the power is in the spoken word. For the longest time I thought I understood it, but I did not. To understand the power in the spoken word one needs to be operating in that power and understanding what it is and what it does to others and us .

God did not use His hands, or some form of magic to create all of creation, He spoke it into being. All through out Genesis 1 we read "And God said" and based on what He said, it happened, it came into being from nothing.

Mark 11

"Whosoever shall SAY" In verse 23 Jesus tells us that based on our words we can cast a mountain into a sea.

We have all read it seeing that we can take the largest thing on earth and cast it into a sea as like an ocean. But a sea is not an ocean, it is a sea, smaller, much smaller, so He was saying you can take the largest thing on earth and cast it into the smaller thing. So not only could we move a mountain, but we could cover it with a sea that normally would not be enough to cover it.

Here is what you need to do to get too the point I am talking about here:

1. Spend 15-30 minutes a day listening, staying very, very still and quite, not even a thought in your head and listen for God.

2. When you hear a spirit ask it if "Jesus came in the flesh". If it says no, then it is Satan you are hearing from, but if it says "yes" then it is God you are hearing from and then listen, and listen, and listen. John 4:1-3

3. Be obedient to what He tells you.

4. Also read His word another 30 minutes a day.

Yes, we are talking about 45 - 60 minutes a day, but look at what you will get for so little time out of your life.

1 John 4

1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

And for those who need to see it in the word, here is the proof we are to hear from God.

1 John 2

27. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

John 14

26. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 8

9: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

It is your choice, go through life struggling, never 100% sure about God and your salvation or be blessed and have no doubt at all about God and your salvation.

Only you can do this, and all it requires is time. Yes it does require time.

It has taken me more than 10 years to get to where I am today.

If you read Malachi 3:10-12 and then Mark 4:12-18 you will see where the tithe can and will increase your knowledge of the word and of God. The tithe is more than just giving 10% to a church, it is a way for God to have authority in your life over all that matters, your income, your growth, even relationships. Out of about 20 people I have known for the past 10+ years only 5 tithed. The 5 of the 20 that tithed have increased in every area of their life. Where the other 15 have increased some, they are still light years behind the 5 who tithed in all areas. It is your choice, but do not tithe until you understand the tithe and what it does for you and do it from the heart and not the head.
