USA, A Godless Country?

Jerry Wilhite, author

In May of 1948 three major items happened to which most people never paid much attention.

In one day Israel became a nation when the UN recognized it as such.

For the first time in 172 years the US Supreme Court decided that there was a need for separation of church and state. This was based on a letter sent in the 19th century to a church assuring it that the state would never interfere with the church.

NBC broadcasted its first program to the nation; television was born.

What do they have in comon?

Prophecy about Israel becoming a nation in one day was to signal the beginning of the end of the days of man.

The US Supreme Court, in their ruling, started the ousting of God from the US. From this 1948 ruling, by 1963, prayer and Bible study was no more in schools and by the 1980's the 10 Comandments were removed from all government buildings. By the 1990's, all nativity or any Christian sets or displays were barred from all public places of the government.

The founding fathers, all being Christian except one, had set up our great Constitution to protect against the government involvement in Christian as well as religious ministries.

Of course, television is the one largest influences on us all, especially our children and is mostly written and run by non-believers. Television became the one thing that would do the most to persecute Christians in days to come.

What is sad is that most do not realize the problems we have had since 1963.

Before 1963 we were only peace keepers in Vietnam. Afterwards 50,000 US soldiers died.

Before 1963 we never had a debt as far as the federal government was concerned. Since then we have had as high as 6 trillion dollars in debt or about 20,000 in debt for every living man, woman, and child in the US.

Before 1963 Abortion was only for those who were at risk of death or were victims of incest or rape. Since abortion became legal over 36 million babies have been killed. Who knows how many cures for how many disease have been lost.

Before 1963 the average personal debt was less than $10,000 and afterwards it is over $200,000.

Before 1963 the only debt was for a home; afterward it was for everything from a home to a dinner out as well as for groceries.

Before 1963 the average home with furniture was less than $15,000 and the average car was less than $1,000. Now the average home is $150,000 without furniture and the average car is $20,000.

Before 1963 the average income was $15,000 annually. Now it is $40,000 annually less than 3 times, where a home is 10 times as high and a car is 20 times as high.

As you have noticed by now, before 1963 life was easier to live, cheaper with less government involvement and less debt; now there is a lot more of everything negative.

It all started in 1948 but by 1963 it was getting into full swing.

No, everything before 1963 was not all great. There was a problem with racism in this country, and the way some were still treated due to race, or even religion was still a problem.

This could have all been handled even better with less violence if God had been more involved instead of less.

I was told a joke (I don't think it is that great of a joke) but I think it sumed up a lot of the problems before 1963 and all of them since.

There was this black man who wanted to join this (all white) church in Atlanta because he felt he might get to know the Lord better there, but they would not let him join no matter how much money he had.

So this man asked God why he could not help him get into this church.

God responded and said, "What do you mean? I can't help you get in there! I have been trying for 30 years to get in and I still haven't made it past the threshold!"

God is not mean and wrathful, but that does not mean He will not pour out His wrath at the end of tribulation. It means He is a very loving, caring and concerned Father to us all, yet we all treat Him like most 17 year boys treat their fathers.

We lie to Him; we do not respect Him; we hardly even give Him the time of day. We misuse all He gives us and takes advantage of it all. But come the day we are in, need we run faster to Him for help than anywhere else. We then expect Him to bail us out of our problems and expect Him to make it all go away. Even though, if we had taken a few minutes a day to listen and then respect Him and what He said, we would never have gotten into whatever mess we are in.

The day is coming when the US will run back to God as it almost did on 9-11-01, for a short day or two America almost got it back. If it had, it would not need a homeland security or be concerned about attacks, but it has not yet, maybe in my life time I will see America Honor and respect God again.

Let's just hope it is not too late. Maybe that is why in the book of Revelation, during the tribulation, the west (US) is like a toothless lion - all roar and nothing else.
