Why Does a Baby Get Sick?

Jerry Wilhite, author

Over the next few pages, if you can keep an open mind and not allow offense to come in, you will be blessed and understand why all of the bad of this world happens - especially to children and babies.

When Jesus was 12 he had gone with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem and on the return to Nazareth 1 day out from Jerusalem Mary noticed Jesus was not with them. Upon their return to Jerusalem they found Him in the temple teaching. When Mary asked Him about His not returning with them, He stated "Did you not know that I would be about my Fathers business?" Even still He submitted to them and returned with them to Nazareth. Which shows the age of a child being on their own out from under the parents protection in the kingdom of God was 12.

Luke 2

40. And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

41. Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

44. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

47. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

50. And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

51. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

We all wonder why a baby suffers. Why would God allow that to happen? If some religions are right, why would God cause that to happen?

First of all God did not cause it to happen. This misunderstanding has come due to a misinterpretation of Job 1:8 Some think that God causes bad things to happen in our lives. Most of that assumption is based on Job 1:8. In Job 1:8 God was not drawing attention to Job for Satan, but He was questioning Satan about what he was planning to do to Job.

Job 1:8 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Many have read the above verse as if it were God singling Job out for Satan to test him. If you read it without any knowledge of Hebrew and do not read it in Hebrew you could interpret the verse wrongly. That is why we are not to interpret the word of God, but to understand. Before I show the scripture to back this up, let's first look at Job 1:8 in the literal translation. Understand that in 1612 AD the English written language was basically only one style and type - that was formal and poetic. Where today there are many variations based on just the slang of those who live in the United States, let alone other English speaking countries. Think about this, in England the word lift is what we call elevator. The word solicitor is lawyer. The word post is mail here in the states. So as you can see from these few words the difference in the English language between the United States and England can be just different enough to confuse someone. Now add the changes made in the language almost 400 years have made added to the difference in the two country's dialects and you can see the point I am getting at. English is not the same in all countries and also much different between 1612 AD and present.

So now let's look at the verse in the literal translation.

8.

|0559| And said

|3068| Yahweh

|0000| to

|7854| Satan,

|7760| Have you set

|3824| your heart

|5650| on My servant

|0347| Job?

|3588| For

|0369| not is {any}

|0000| like him

|0776| in the earth,

|0376| a man

|8535| perfect

|3477| and upright,

|3373| revering

|0430| God

|5186| and turning away

|7451| from evil.

As you may have noticed God was not pointing out Job to be tested by Satan, but God was questioning Satan about what his plans were for Job. Ok, you know there are differences, some subtle and some not, but the point is that it is not God causing the confusion, but man and Satan.

So you can see what happens when man interprets God's word vs. understanding the word. How can one have an understanding? We are flesh, soul and spirit; God is a Spirit; when our spirit and God's Spirit are connected we then learn and understand instead of interpret His word.

John 14

26. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Of course you do receive the Spirit of God when you are saved or born again, but the fullness of His Spirit in our life only happens when we are of the body of Christ.

No, we are not of the body when we are saved, we are not even part of the church yet.

1 John 2
27. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

In I John, John clarifies the matter of the Spirit. It is the anointing we receive that teaches us. We know that Christ is a Greek word meaning anointing. The anointing is having the Spirit of God in, on and through us. Like a dry sponge in a bowl of water; the sponge absorbs the water. When we are of the body we absorb the Spirit of God.

To learn about the differences between born again (saved), church, and body of Christ read the study entitled Life Starts Here.

Now before you get the idea that those who do not know are not to be concerned think again.

Hosea 4
6. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:
because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

If you think the above verse deals only with priests read this next verse.

Revelation 1
6.
And hath made US kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

We are all responsible for those in our family under at least the age of 12.

If we operate in the world free of the body of Christ we then operate under the curse and the law. If we are not even following the law, then we are definitely under the curse. If we are under the law then our children suffer due to us being under the curse as well.

Everyone, especially in this country has heard about Jesus. Anyone in America can, at the very least, go to a church and ask for a Bible or visit a library and start reading and understanding.

So does that mean when the baby gets sick, it is because it is under the curse. This is not what God wants, but it was what the family (the parents of the baby) chose . They did not want to believe and they did not. Not believing does not for one minute make or allow anyone to be free of the law. Just like if you did not believe in gravity and went to a high place and jumped off, you would not fly or float just because you did not believe. No, you would fall and most likely die.

To have a child it is up to every parent to be sure they are prepared in all ways. That includes the word of God, along with the blessings or curses.

Understand that when you are born again you are blessed and you are promised the next life, but if you do not grow and become part of the church and then of the body of Christ, you can become like the first seed sown in Mark 4.

Mark 4

10. And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12. That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13. And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14. The sower soweth the word.

15. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh imediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, imediately receive it with gladness;

17. And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, imediately they are offended.

18. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

If you are born again and do not grow you are like the first one listed by Jesus.

Satan cometh imediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. (Mark 4:15)

You see, you need to grow into the church to become part of the body. You can not go from born again to the body and skip the church. It is your growth into the church where you receive and understand about revelations. A revelation is a revealed truth by God to you.

Some call being of the body, the infilling or being filled with the Spirit. If you grow into the church and stop there then you are like the second seed Jesus mentioned.

Mark 4

16. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, imediately receive it with gladness;

17. And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, imediately they are offended.

And those who grow into the Body of Christ and stop there are like the 3rd group Jesus mentioned.

Mark 4

18. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

If you realize that being part of the body of Christ is not enough, that you still need to grow then you are like the 4th group Jesus mentioned.

Mark 4

20. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Understand that to be able to live this life and to be blessed requires even in the world system a lot of studying and learning, a college degree, B.A., Masters, or a PHD. So if the world requires that we grow to be blessed and we do so, and spend tens of thousands of dollars and dedicate 4-9 years of school even after we graduate from High school, how much more does God deserve from us when the return with Him is 30, 60, 100 fold? When we study in His word with Him explaining it to us we not only receive 30, 60, 100 fold, but health, happiness and more.

And what does the world promise you after their school? If you said nothing you are right.

You see God does not curse us. He does not bring bad into our life. He is saddened by our lack and sickness, etc. We bring it on ourselves. We all say, "If I lived in the days of Adam I would not have sinned." Would we have been any better? I mean really would we?

I remember at one time when I was just born again and reading about the apostles and how they were and how they doubted. I thought in those days I would not have doubted if I would have been with Jesus and saw Him at work. Guess what I probably would have been worse.

So the point is this - if you do not want to be sick, and you do not want your children to be sick, and you want to be whole in all areas of your life, then start dedicating time in His word. Remember that when man alone reads the word of God, man interprets the word.

Think of this - two people read the same book and both have different ideas of what the book is about. So to settle their argument and find out who is right and who is wrong they seek out the author. Then they find they both are wrong and so far off base that they need to re-read it with the author explaining as they go.

We can do the same with the word of God. God promised to teach us.

So the next time you hear of a child suffering with sickness, of course pray for the child, but also pray the parents seek God. Imagine what would happen in the family if both parents were of one mind at the same time to that family.

Read the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6, it states "His will be done in earth as it is in heaven" You should know by now that Jesus would never say anything that we could not do or have. With that being the case and we are told to have all on earth as it is in heaven, then we know it is not God's will for sickness, illness, sadness, depression, lack, debt, and so on.

There is only one way to get to that point in life - spend as much time daily as needed to learn all we can to be as blessed as we can for our children.
